Circumstances brought Mathilda and Phil together. Both from different backgrounds and training. Together, they are bringing you “therapeutic nutrition.”

Meet Mathilda, yoga teacher, gardener, chef, hypnosis and Neurolinguistic practitioner, a seasoned plant-based advocate and restaurateur, and Phil, a surgeon with over 15 years of experience in whole food plant-based (WFPB) living. From different paths, they've reached the same conclusion—WFPB is a win win for all involved. Together, they’ve inspired countless people to embrace this lifestyle, transforming lives with better health and energy.

Now, they’re taking it further with the world’s first “prescription café”—a destination offering delicious, science-driven meals designed to help combat disease and support optimal health. Think:

Mathilda and Phil (aka dr. Phil)

Mathilda: Yogi, chef, hypnotherapist, mindfulness leader…

Mathilda wears many hats and is passionate about many many things. Life is exciting and adventurous and she’s always up for a challenge. She is the owner of Mathilda’s in downtown Oshawa. In August 2018, she answered her heart’s calling by opening a restaurant, while also running her wellness centre in Whitby. 

Car accidents and multiple injuries from working frontline health care jobs led her to become sicker and sicker by the year. When she turned 30, she hit rock bottom and surrendered. This led her to a plant-based diet in 2015, and shortly after, a vegan lifestyle. Trying to heal herself, Mathilda went on to study clinical and metaphysical hypnotherapy, yoga therapy, Neurolinguistic Programming, and Holistic Nutrition.

In 2016, Mathilda co-founded Alam Yoga and Wellness, which, due to the exponential growth of the restaurant, has been closed as of Dec 31 2019. Mathilda continues her yoga and hypnotherapy journey privately. She facilitates group and private sessions in the community. She has been coaching clients to make small, sustainable changes to release excess weight and achieve long term health by preventing and reversing lifestyle diseases. Her approach is holistic and looks at the complete Self: mental, emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual. She is also the hypno-yoga lady, where she believes that mindful movement, breathing, and meditation are at the core of healing and fitness (inside and out).

She believes that we can be strong without exhausting and torturing the body. Movement should be enjoyable and promote long term health. Her yoga teaching focuses on the FOUNDATION that must first be addressed before doing anything else. She is passionate about healing back injuries, living with scoliosis, and realigning the body to perform optimally in all areas.

She witnessed that not many people ever get off medications once prescribed. She is not interested in managing symptoms; her goal is to heal the root cause and reverse diseases whenever possible. After overcoming her own health struggles, she is on a mission to get the community healthy and vibrant, starting with their plates. She is here to show people that plant-based foods are healthy AND delicious. There is no magic pill or shortcut to overall health and wellbeing. We must do the required work.

Dr. Phil: Student, father, husband, surgeon, nutrition coach, teacher.

Dr. Phil is an advocate for nutrition-based health and wellness. His approach to nutrition emphasizes the power of food in preventing and even reversing diseases.

You may know him in Durham region for his expertise in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Yes, the same guy. He has served the community for over 24 years after a career in family practice, years in academic research, and training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin with subspecialty training in Micro-Reconstructive and Hand Surgery. He is passionate about disease prevention and reversal with a plant-centred diet. Dr. Phil's science-backed approach on nutrition will help expand the message that diet plays a critical role in our overall health and well-being.

Now: the introduction of “Therapeutic Nutrition”, a lifestyle to promote health, prevent disease, maybe even reverse diseases, and to encourage “Knowledge for Healthy Longevity”. In other words, don’t leave years on the table, but instead, live your limited life to the fullest, mindfully, with gratitude, and appreciation of all that is important.
